Sustainability Statement

Confluence is a private sector leader for environmental sustainability in Boulder County. Through action, advocacy, and community engagement, Confluence is a firm and positive influence on its business peers and among its own members.

Confluence was Gold-certified again for 2017 through the Lafayette Green Business program, works closely with Boulder County Partners for a Clean Environment (PACE), and represents the local business interest on the city’s Energy Sustainability Advisory Committee.

Our sustainability efforts are concentrated in four key areas:

Energy Efficiency - In 2017, Confluence invested in a new facility featuring a PV solar system, solar thermal hot water heating, and a demo wind turbine. Office lighting will be upgraded to LED fixtures and bulbs, and we commit to selecting high efficiency HVAC equipment and appliances as these units are replaced. Confluence will be a founding and presenting sponsor for the Run for the Sun 5K family road race in June of 2018, an event that will serve to educate participants on Lafayette’s coal-to-solar history and promote solar PV installations.

Alternative Transportation - Confluence provides bike racks for members and is located adjacent to the RTD Park & Ride station that hosts routes to Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Erie, Longmont, and Louisville. In 2017, Confluence actively promoted bus riding through a Bus to Work Day event and sponsorship of a social media contest challenging people to share their bus-riding experiences. For 2018, Confluence is exploring the installation of an electric vehicle charging station as well as a bike-share program. Members will also enjoy access to an on-site shower.

Waste Stream Diversion - Receptacles for single stream recycling and paper composting are readily accessible in the workspace, kitchen, and meeting rooms. Prominent signage reminds members what items can be diverted from the landfill. Confluence purchases post-recycled paper products for kitchen and restrooms, and members are encouraged to use the reusable plates, bowls, and silverware provided rather than disposable paper and plastic. Confluence is exploring becoming a collection site for hard to recycle electronics.

Efficient Water Usage - Confluence maintains limited, low-water landscaping, including no grass or turf. High-efficiency aerators have been installed on restroom faucets and we commit to selecting efficient models as toilets are replaced.

Through formal and informal engagement of our community, Confluence commits to maintaining awareness and promoting a positive dialog around environmental sustainability. We welcome input and commit to revisiting our actions and opportunities on an ongoing basis in the standard course of managing Confluence operations.
