Alternative Transportation in Lafayette

Remote work has quickly become the most sought-after employee benefit, with a shorter commute being a top, enticing factor. With more than 28% of all air pollution coming from automobiles, people are searching for ways to cut down on their carbon footprint while saving time and money.

Instead of being stuck in traffic for 30+ minutes both to and from the office, remote coworkers can opt for a leisurely walk or bike ride to their neighborhood coworking space.

Others can utilize the bus without having to worry about driving, as many coworking locations are located near a public transit station.

And as electric vehicles grow in popularity, more places are installing EV charging stations for the convenience of their members.

With all of this in mind, Confluence has aimed to make eco-friendly travel about town as simple as possible.

Confluence is doing its part

Catching public transportation to any of the surrounding communities is a quick, 3-5 minute walk from our space, making bus transit a snap. We offer a great deal on pre-loaded fare cards to Confluence members while they last, so that they can take advantage of the station’s proximity when traveling for work or leisure.

In 2019, Confluence installed an EV charging station and shared our experience with other small businesses during an educational workshop about electric vehicle station grants. Confluence members receive specially discounted charging as one of their member perks.

Our coworking space also participated in Lafayette in Action Day, a community service event that celebrates the contributions of young people in our town. Volunteers helped us install bike racks so that members and day users can safely store their bikes during work or meetings.

This year, with the goal of providing information about eco-friendly options within our community, we asked our partner Commuting Solutions to create a cheat sheet for Confluence members and visitors!

This Lafayette Commuting Guide makes it easy to find alternative transportation within the local area. With details about the RTD bus routes, cycling maps, carpools, vanpools, and rideshares, there’s a variety of free and convenient options to choose from.

Go car-less for August (and beyond!)

One of the complimentary services outlined in the guide includes Ride Free Lafayette. This on-demand, door-to-door bus service provides transportation within the City of Lafayette and to the Kestrel affordable housing community in Louisville.

With operations running seven days a week, riders can schedule a pick-up by phone, via the website, or through the On Demand Transit: Rider app. No transfers are needed to get riders to their destinations within the service area.

And exciting news for August 2022 … Commuting Solutions and RTD have partnered to create a statewide initiative designed to reduce ground-level ozone by encouraging use of public transit. Through the end of August, customers can ride RTD for no cost thanks to the Zero Fare for Better Air campaign.

RTD has found that August is Colorado’s high ozone season due to high temperatures and out-of-state visitors. Besides not having to deal with increased traffic during a peak season, riding public transit means a person can save up to 20 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions every day, promoting cleaner air.

Take advantage of these two incredible services to reduce your carbon footprint while enjoying cost-savings and stress-free transportation.

It’s not only about transportation…

Coworking has been leading the charge in eco-friendly real estate since its inception. Shared amenities such as electricity and central heating and cooling cut down on individual consumption that would occur from working at home, or, for larger companies, the amount that is wasted from a too-large office with not enough in-person employees to fill it (according to the EPA, three or more companies operating through a coworking space reduce their energy consumption by at least 30%).

Confluence is proud to be a part of the movement. We are a Gold-certified Lafayette Green Business that works closely with Boulder County Partners for a Clean Environment (PACE). Our building features three PV solar arrays, electric hot water heating, and a wind turbine. Office lighting is 100% LED with occupancy sensors in the restrooms, high-efficiency HVAC equipment was installed, and thermostats are programmed to account for occupancy. We offer composting, and non-disposable dishes in our community kitchen. Confluence also maintains limited, low-water landscaping, with no grass or turf.

Through formal and informal engagement of our community, Confluence commits to maintaining awareness and promoting a positive dialog around environmental sustainability. Join us today to green up your workday.
